Design and development
The website www.meteobelge.be and the Météo Belge app for iPhone and Android were designed and developed by Weblunor, a website and app design agency, which also maintains them.
Who writes the weather
Météo Belge is an independent service. It is neither a public service nor an official body, and it is not affiliated with the Royal Meteorological Institute or with any authority.
The published forecasts are based on a consensus between several models, then reviewed, corrected and commented on by Michaël Vincent, an independent forecaster with a passion for meteorology. He is the one who decides when the models disagree, who tempers a poorly calibrated risk and who writes the texts you read.
Intellectual property
The Météo Belge name, the logo, the visual identity, the icons, the maps, the texts, the bulletins and the comments published on the site and in the app are protected. Any reproduction, adaptation or reuse, even partial, for commercial purposes is prohibited without our written consent.
Quoting remains free: reusing a sentence or a piece of data while crediting “Météo Belge” and linking to the original page requires no permission. What is not allowed is large-scale reuse, copying an entire page or use under another brand.
Photos posted by members in the chat or on the observation map remain the property of their authors, who authorise us to display them within the service.
Where the data comes from
We are open about our sources: a forecast should also be judged by what it uses.
- Forecast models: ECMWF, ICON and ICON-D2 from the German weather service, AROME and ARPEGE from the French weather service, and the American GFS, distributed via Open-Meteo.
- Satellite images: EUMETSAT, for clouds seen from above.
- Real-time lightning: the Blitzortung sensor network.
- Rivers: the Service public de Wallonie, and waterinfo.be for Flanders.
- Climate references: the normals and readings of official stations, and municipal boundaries from GISCO (European Commission).
- Warnings: our warnings are our own, written by us. They do not reproduce or replace official warnings.
Limits of liability
A forecast is a probability, never a guarantee. We do everything we can to make it accurate and honest, but the atmosphere always has the last word.
Météo Belge therefore cannot be held liable for any decision taken solely on the basis of a forecast, a warning or any data published here, nor for any direct or indirect damage that may result from it. For any decision where people's safety is at stake, refer to the official warnings and the instructions of the authorities.
Availability of the service
We aim for a service that is always available, without being able to promise it. An outage, maintenance work or the failure of a data source may interrupt all or part of the site and the app. We give notice when it is foreseeable and restore the service as quickly as possible.
Links to other sites
The site sometimes links to external pages. We have no control over their content and cannot be held responsible for it. A link is not an endorsement.
Content posted by members
The chat, the profiles and the observation map host content written by members. Each member remains responsible for what they post.
We moderate: a message or image that is unlawful, insulting, hateful, misleading or off-topic may be removed, and the account suspended. To report content, use the report button or write to contact@meteobelge.be: we deal with reports quickly.
Report an error
Incorrect data, a municipality in the wrong place, a warning that should not be there: let us know through the contact form. Corrections cost us nothing; errors left in place cost trust.
Governing law
The site, the app and this legal notice are governed by Belgian law. In the event of a dispute that we have been unable to resolve amicably, the courts and tribunals of the judicial district of Hainaut, Charleroi division, have jurisdiction, without prejudice to the consumer protection rules that allow consumers to bring proceedings before the court of their place of residence.
