Northern lights in Belgium? Yes, and here is how not to miss them

During major geomagnetic storms, the northern lights reach our latitudes: the nights of May and October 2024 proved it spectacularly. This page follows the Kp index measured by NOAA in real time, its hour-by-hour forecast for the next 48 hours and the maximum expected over the next three days, with a visibility table specific to Belgium (~50°N).

But a high Kp is not enough: you also need a clear sky and a truly dark night. That is where this page makes the difference: for your town or village it works out the cloud cover for the coming night, how bright the moon is and the hours of real darkness, then sums it all up in a simple verdict: go out, give it a try, or sleep soundly.
