FloodingThe level is approaching or exceeding the station's historic floods or its official alarm threshold.

Frequently asked questions

What do the colours mean?
Each point is an official gauging station. Green: normal level. Yellow: high level, the river is higher than usual. Orange: very high level, flood risk, one to watch. Red: flooding, the river has reached critical levels comparable to its major historic floods or to the official alarm threshold.
Where does the data come from?
From the official monitoring networks: the Walloon Public Service (hydrometrie.wallonie.be) and waterinfo.be (VMM and De Vlaamse Waterweg) for Flanders. These are the same sensors the authorities use to monitor flooding.
How is the status determined?
In Wallonia, the measured level is compared with the station's official statistics (levels exceeded only 10% or 5% of the time since the 1970s) and with its reference floods (such as July 2021). In Flanders, it is compared with the official alert and alarm thresholds (waakpeil and alarmpeil) set station by station.
Why is my river not shown?
Only rivers and streams with an official gauging station are shown. Navigable canals, whose level is kept artificially by locks, are not shown: a "high" status would make no sense there.

Data: Walloon Public Service (hydrometrie.wallonie.be) · waterinfo.be (VMM, De Vlaamse Waterweg). Statuses and trends calculated by Météo Belge.
