Weather on Tuesday 6 October: one last mild spell before rain and cooler weather
Make the most of it: this Tuesday 6 October is shaping up to be one of the last really mild days of autumn in Belgium. After waking up to fog in the west, sunshine dominates and temperatures climb to 22 to 23°C inland. But change is on the way: rain arrives Wednesday evening, and on Thursday, highs drop to 10 to 15°C.
- Morning: fog sometimes very dense in the west and the Gaume, clear skies in the centre and east
- Afternoon: plenty of sunshine and 22 to 23°C inland, 18 to 19°C on the coast
- Wednesday evening: rain arriving, particularly over the southern half
- Thursday: noticeably cooler, 10 to 15°C, with a sustained north-westerly wind
🌤️ Tuesday 6 October: fog in the morning, remarkable warmth in the afternoon
🌙 Tonight: fog in the west, clear skies elsewhere
Patches of fog form very early in the west of Hainaut and in Gaume, with visibility dropping to just tens of metres in places. From the centre to the eastern hills, the night remains clear and calm. Minimum temperatures will range from 6 to 12°C, with the coldest values in the valleys, around Namur or Chimay.
🌫️ Tuesday morning: two Belgiums waking up
A stark contrast at sunrise. Fog and low cloud linger over the coast, in Flanders and extending into the west of Hainaut, with visibility sometimes near zero: drive carefully. The centre and east, by contrast, wake up to clear skies. In Gaume, the grey clears during the morning. Temperatures will be 9 to 12°C.
☀️ Tuesday afternoon: up to 23°C inland
The sun dominates widely, with just a few clouds dotting the sky. Warmth is remarkable for the season: 22 to 23°C from Brussels to Liège and in the south, locally 24°C. The coast and the west remain cooler, with 18 to 19°C under some medium cloud, just like the highlands of the east (19°C at Butgenbach). The wind remains light, from the north-east.
🌆 Tuesday evening: first clouds of the change
A layer of medium cloud comes to dull the end of the day over the north-western half, whilst the east and Gaume keep an almost perfect sky. It is still 14 to 17°C around 21:00, 12°C at Butgenbach. No rain is expected, but these clouds are the first sign of the weather changing.

📅 What's next? Rain on Wednesday evening, cooler on Thursday
Wednesday 7 October: last mild afternoon, then rain
After a morning with a mix of cloud and sunny spells, the afternoon remains very mild, with 19 to 23°C. The sky clouds over from the west towards the end of the day, and rain sets in during the evening across the country. The southern half sees the most of it: up to around ten millimetres over the Famenne and the Sambre-et-Meuse valley.
Thursday 8 October: cold front passes through, cooler air arrives
It rains for much of the night from Wednesday to Thursday, especially in the east. The sky then clears from the west from the morning onwards, and the afternoon brings fine sunny spells. But the air has changed: maximum temperatures top out at 10 to 15°C, that's 7 to 12 degrees lower than Tuesday, with brisk north-westerly winds and gusts up to 50 km/h.
Friday 9 October: showers and cool night
Light showers move through at times, interspersed with clearer spells, with more rain over the High Fens. Highs will range from 12 to 16°C generally, and the preceding night will dip to 4 to 5°C in places.
| Day | Weather | Temperatures | Wind |
| Tuesday 6 | ☀️ Mist then sunny | 6 to 12°C / 18 to 23°C | Light, north-easterly |
| Wednesday 7 | 🌦️ Mild, rain in the evening | 8 to 13°C / 19 to 23°C | Moderate, south-westerly |
| Thursday 8 | 🌧️ Rain overnight, bright spells | 10 to 13°C / 10 to 15°C | Fresh, gusts up to 50 km/h |
| Friday 9 | 🌦️ Showers | 4 to 11°C / 12 to 16°C | Gusts up to 55 km/h |
- Leave a bit earlier in the morning if you're driving in the west of the country or in Gaume: fog can be very dense
- Make the most of the afternoon sunshine: it's one of the last days this mild
- Keep a jacket and umbrella close to hand for the weekend
Reliability is good for Tuesday and Wednesday: all models agree on sunshine and mild conditions. The exact time of rain arriving Wednesday evening could still vary by a few hours. Thursday's temperature drop is also well predicted by all the models.
