🌧️ Why a weather warning for rain on Wednesday?
A depression born over the Bay of Biscay crosses France, then its centre passes over eastern Belgium and the German border in the evening and early part of the night, deepening. Belgium finds itself on its south-west flank: rain wraps around the centre of the depression and pivots over the eastern half of the country during the night, whilst the west is already clearing.
This is not a thunderstorm episode or violent showers: the intensity rarely exceeds 5 mm in one hour. But rain falls almost without interruption for long hours, and nearly 90% of the total falls in 15 hours. It is this duration that allows the yellow weather warning threshold to be reached, set at 25 mm in 24 hours.

Night of Wednesday to Thursday: the second surge (03:00 → 07:00)
After a slight drop in intensity around midnight, the rain picks up again between 03:00 and 07:00, as it wraps around the depression. This second wave is just as wet as the first, especially over eastern Liège province and the Ardennes.
Thursday: progressive lull
